I was fortune enough to meet a very nice man on the app Periscope. This app is quickly becoming an obsession. If you don’t know what periscope is, you need to look into it now. This blog isn’t about Periscope however, it’s about this soul I met there.
He’s a 33 year old kidney failure patient that was broadcasting from the hospital because he was bitten by a spider and that can be lethal to someone with his condition. Somehow, my miscarriage early this year comes into the conversation and he told me a very inspiring story.
“I was having dinner with a group of friends and at the table next to me another group of people sat down. My group was all served their dinner but my food didn’t come out so I waited and I waited. Everyone was eating their food and all I can do was sit there and watch.
At the table next to me, I could see everyone was getting their food now as well. Whattttttt???? They sat down a half hour after us and they are getting their food? Where the hell is my plate? I finally had to ask the waitress what was taking so long. ” Excuse me, why is my food taking so long? I’ve been waiting at least an hour and the table next to me has all gotten their food. What’s the hold up?” She looked at me thoughtfully and said, “I’m sorry it’s taking so long but your order was very, very special and its taking longer than everyone else because yours was more complicated. They were able to get their food sooner because it was simpler to make.”
Moments later, my meal comes out and it was amazing. Cooked to perfection and so delicious, it was worth the long wait. It was everything I had wanted and more.”
Moral of the story? Just because everyone around you is getting what you don’t have doesn’t mean you won’t get it, it just means that your order is so special its just taking a little more time to prepare. In life, we look around and see people with all the things we don’t have and it’s hard to have faith that we ever will have those things too. Just stop and think, maybe what’s meant for you is so wonderful and special, it’s just taking a little longer to get.
I’d love to know in the comments if you can relate to this story. What is something precious that you have in life that just took a little bit longer to get than everyone else?
