Essential oils are all the rage right now. It seems that everyone is looking for natural ways to help with illness and everyday aches and pains. They are especially a blessing for pregnant and new mothers who can’t take or use most pharmaceuticals on their newborn baby or personally because they are nursing.
I was first introduced to oils not with a sales pitch but by seeing it used in real life. A friend’s child was having a temper tantrum and she askedone of our friends who uses them religiously, “What oil can I use to help me with this?” She pulled out a small bottle and told her rub it on his feet. Like magic, a moment later, the child started to calm down and relax. “Uhh, what are you using?” I ask. “It’s a potion, she’s a witch.” Actually, it’s essential oils but it seems to work like magic.
Not only can they help a child relax and calm down, but they can help with so many other things! One of those things (that is near and dear to my heart, as you all know) is your fertility and cycle. Keep reading
… I’ll tell you how I use them and my five favorite oils that I use myself.

How do you use them?
There are two main ways I use essential oils:
Inhalation: You can inhale from the bottle, rub a few drops of essential oil in your hands and cup your hands over nose and breathe in, or diffused into the air. When you inhale the oil, it sends a signal to your nerves that goes straight to your brain and works immediately throughout your mind and body. It is the most direct delivery and the quickest. I use this method to immediately relieve my frequent nausea. Instant relief. Thank you, peppermint.

Topical Application: You can rub oils on the body part that is bothering you or on your feet which is connected to every organ in your body. Pulse points are also a good place because blood vessels are closer to the surface. This allows for quicker absorption. This includes your wrists, temples, and the back of the neck. When you apply the oil to your skin, it is quickly absorbed into your bloodstream by your pores and is then delivered to that specific organ. Many oils are gentle enough to be applied directly to the skin, or “neat” as we say in the oil-world, but other need to be diluted with a carrier oil. A carrier oil is any fatty oil such as liquid (fractionated) coconut oil, olive oil, grapeseed oil, almond oil, avocado oil, etc. My favorite to use is coconut oil. Each bottle of essential oil gives instructions for how to use it and will tell you general dilution ratios. There are some great reference books that I use also that help me figure out how to use each oil appropriately and safely.

So what oils do I use for my infertility
Clary Sage: Helps to regulate your cycle by stimulating your pituitary gland which produces specific hormones used for reproduction. So it not only helps regulate your hormones, but it also boosts your sex drive which is important when you are trying to conceive. This oil assists with male infertility too because of its hormone balancing properties. It works best when paired with Geranium.
How to Use It: Clary Sage is used as a massage oil above the reproductive region. You can also dilute it and apply on the feet, ankles and wrists or diffuse it. If you are using it to relieve PMS symptoms, rub 6-8 drops on the lower back.
Geranium: This oil is also a hormone balancer and cycle regulator. It’s also great for your mood because it has a soothing, calming effect. Perfect for women like me with endometriosis.
How to Use: Massage oil into lower abdomen and back after your period. It can also be used for both male and female aerosol. To do this, put a bit on both inner thighs and on pulse points (wrist, neck, cleavage)
Lavender – This oil also helps regulate your hormones just like Clary Sage. Greatly supported by Geranium and Clary Sage, it’s considered to be an aphrodisiac. I use this oil every night in my diffuser to help me sleep. It has many other uses and you should always have a bottle on hand.
How to Use It: Can be used along with the other oils listed or you can combine Epsom salt (1/4 cup) and 5 drops of oil and put into a relaxing night-time bath.
Ylang Ylang– Revs up your reproductive organs and helps them work more efficiently. It’s an aphrodisiac and is also a hormone balancer. It has a rich, pleasing and romantic floral scent and is one of my favorites in the diffuser. You can also massage into the scalp to increase the appearance of healthy, shiny hair.
How to Use it: You can rub into lower abdomen and lower back. Also, you can put it on your neck and pulse points! Bonus: It smells amazing so you can use it as a perfume too!
Fennel: Best used during the first part of your cycle to help regulate menstruation and improve hormonal function. It’s also great for painful menstrual cramps.
How to Use it: Mix 3-5 drops essential oil with 1 Tablespoon carrier oil; massage on hips and lower back.
