It’s crazy to think that a week has passed since we started full force into our IVF journey. Approaching next week, when they will be retrieving the eggs that will potentially become our child or children is almost mind blowing.
So here is what happen

These are photos from the week before.
On September 5th, which happened to be Labor Day, I had to remove my birth control . I can not tell you how happy I was to do that. First, it was giving me horrible headaches; like migraine-type headaches. Ugh, no fun at all. Second, it meant things are starting to happen and that was the most thrilling thing to realize.
September 7th, Evan and I went in for my baseline appointment and to learn how to give my injections. They saw 15 potential for eggs. 7 on the left, 8 on the right. This was great for me and the nurse to see; because of my low egg reserve, they weren’t expecting to see so many (YAY). In unrelated news for this day, my poor husband, while trying to open a vial, he cut his finger open and bleed for a very long time. I think he needed stitches but of course, being a man, he wouldn’t get any. I’m happy to say he’s on the road to recovery.
September 10th, FIRST INJECTION DAY, or the beginning of stim (aka stimulation)! Why am so excited to inject needles into my stomach? To get those eggs big and strong of course. I’ll be injecting two medication, Gonal-F and Menopur. Gonal-F is no problem. It comes in pen and I just need to dial up 225 and inject, so easy. Menopur, that’s a completely different story. The vials are glass and need to be snapped open which is dangerous and hard to do. Evan won’t do it anymore since his accident. I have some heavy duty gloves to open them so I’m not worried about getting hurt. After you open this vial, you have to mix the solution with 3 other small bottles which sounds easy but the first night wasn’t. Now we are doing better mixing the medications. Just took some practice.

So what’s to come?
I have my second monitoring appointment to see how my eggies are doing. This consists of looking at them on an ultrasound and taking blood work. I’m hoping to see a lot of them grown to 10mm or more, like all 15. We shall see, fingers and toes crossed.
I’m also expecting to be adding a new injectable to the mix next week. What joy! I can’t wait to be poking my stomach 3 times in a day. I’m kidding, of course; it doesn’t really bother me. It’s for such a short time, I can’t complain at all. If it’s going to give us the family we have been dreaming about, it’s all worth it.
Can’t wait to give you some more updates!
