Ahhh, can you smell the fresh new year in the air? I don’t know about you but it gets me thinking about how I can improve myself. There really is no better time to try to create some good habits for yourself. It’s the only time I’m motivated to do so and I’m sure you feel the same way too. I’ve put together some great habits you can bring into your brand spanking new year.
Make Your Bed Every Morning
There is nothing better than pulling back the comforter and getting into bed at the end of the day, but when my bed is a mess from the morning – it’s just not the same. I know you may feel like it’s a waste of time, especially if you are rushing in the morning but just do it. You won’t be sorry.
Make a To Do List every night
Since you are on your phone at night laying in bed checking your Facebook, go ahead and use a notes app to make a list of things you know you need to get done tomorrow. Rather write it down? Make sure you have a pad and paper right on your night table ready to go. If you are like me, I stay awake making lists in your head anyway so if you can brain dump it and not have to remember it, you’ll sleep much better.
Check Your To Do List and Calendar When You Wake Up
Now that you’ve written it down don’t forget to go back in the morning and look it over checking things off as you go about your day. Check your calendar either on your phone or your agenda depending on how you like to keep it and remind yourself of any appointments you may have that day. If the things on your list are to be done in the future, be sure to add those to your calendar at this time.
Read A New Book Every Month
I know what you are thinking, who has time to sit and read a book? I get it but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the books your friends are loving. Believe it or not, you have the time if you are using Audible to read you your books. No matter if you are driving or cleaning the house, by using Audible to buy books and their awesome app to read your books to you, you have no excuse for not being able to keep this new habit going. Self Care Every Day
Every day? Really Dawn? Before you freak, I’m not saying you need to go out and get a pedicure every day and spend lots of money. All I’m saying is do something to make you feel good and improve your appearance. Take an Epsom salt bath, exfoliate your face or body, shave those legs (yes, even in the winter) just do something for yourself every day. Put it on your checklist so you don’t forget what you are going to do.

These are great habits! I have been trying to make my bed every morning and it makes such a great difference!
Thanks! Doesn’t it? I can’t really explain why but it so does. Happy New Year and thanks for the comment ?
Dang I am almost 100% on top of things lol. I do all of this except read a new book every month. I do want to find more ME time for reading though. Great list! Another thing I am doing is taking more relaxing bubble baths rather than always showering.
It seem you got it going on! Good for you. Baths are my everything. I swear there is nothing better than a bath and a book. Thanks for commenting I appreciate it ?
I am on board with reading a book! But I rarely make my bed. I just don’t see the point.
I should write more to do lists…
I totally get making the bed thing but I do feel more productive if my bed is made. Not really sure why. Thanks for stopping by! ?
I need to start some new habits. Flossing my teeth and washing my face every night are ones I should start
I’m with you on both of these. I’m terrible at flossing every night! Thanks for stopping by ?
I would like to read at least a book a month more would be great but 12 will be my goal number! I do get the making the bed thing but it is definitely not made every morning. I do keep a to do list and love when I can strike off something (same goes for my bucketlist)!!
lol I get the bed thing. It I’m good to really try and be good! We shall see how I do. ? thanks for your comment.
I love the self care every night. I spend so much time taking care of others I’m second.
I hear you but give it a try! Take a few mins out for yourself!
I have the same problem. I’ve never really taken care of me.
It’s so important. I hope you will work on this New Year. ?
To be honest, I already do most of these every day! It was sort of my new year’s resolution last year, and I’m glad I’ve accomplished it
Good for you Amy! Some people still don’t know how effect these 5 things can be on their life. I’d love to know what your resolutions for next year are?
I ironically look at the planner every morning, make a to do list at night and make up my bed every morning lol. They definitely make me feel like I have my day in order.

I love your list, and especially love the “make your bed every morning.” It’s amazing how something so seemingly trivial can make such a difference in your day! Cheers!
Yes! I don’t think people understand the power of a made bed has. Thanks for stopping by.
You are so right! I need to start with those habits son. And anything better than this new year. Thank you!
No thank you for your comment. Happy New Year!
These are great habits! I’ll love to read a book every month… And not start a new one til I’m done with the current one! I’m so bad about that!
I think one a month is totally doable! You can do it! Thanks for commenting!

Some say that messy room is equal to a messy thinking. If you start your work in a clean environment, you can easily think better and be more productive especially if you have a habit of reading books that can enhance your knowledge, makes your memory and focus improve, makes you a better writer and can reduce stress.
So much yes to all you have said! Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I really appreciate it!
I always fail in making a to-do list. I think now is the best time to start doing it as a habit. Thanks for sharing!

Yes! I need to work on this myself but when I do it I’m so glad I did. Thanks is for stopping by.
I love the idea of writing a to do list before bed. My mind is always spinning about things I need to get done. Also I am horrible at making my bed everyday =/ I also want to read more this upcoming year!
All thing you should try! I do hope you are successful. Have a wonder New Year!
Making my bed I’m not so good at, but reading a book every month is a breeze…so maybe I’ll add the making a bed thing in my routine this year.
You should! Give it a go, you won’t be sorry. Have a wondering New Year!
These are all great tips and advice and things I already do. Love it.
You are ahead of the same. Good for you?. Thanks for stopping by!
Great ideas for the New Year! I often make a to do list, but forget to check things off it-lol! Good advice for accomplishing goals as we head into 2017.
Thank you Jennifer. Have a happy, productive, and healthy new year!
This is just what I needed to hear, fab tips here and I will defiantly be doing these, this new year I really need to organise myself more and this is perfect for it! Thankyou!
Thank you for your comment! So glad I could inspire you!
Read a new book every month is on my list of goals for 2017! I cannot leave the house in the morning without making my bed, pulling the duvet and sheets right back to air out the bed after 8 hours of 2 people sleeping in it is so important for health and sanitary reasons!! Plus it goes with the tidy home, tide mind theory that I have.

So much yes! I don’t think people realize the psychological effect have a made bed plays on there mind. I’m. It sure how it works but it does. Than you for your comment!
great habits to have. I always feel a whole lot of difference when I make my bed in the morning. I wonder how simple things can make our mind peaceful and more productive.
I wonder how it works to but it so does! Thanks for stopping by.
I loved this post!
It’s so important to have clear what your porpoise is every day you wake up.
All to lead you to a happy life!.
I couldn’t agree more! Thanks for your comment.
this is a great article. I’m trying to get everything together so I can start new healthy habits.
I tink I need to get back to reading books every month. I missed daydreaming with a good book, and traveling while in bed sipping hot mocha 🙂
These are great habits to form. I’d love to read a new book every month, but I certainly don’t have the time. I’d love to get my honey on board with making the bed every day!
I love these ideas for the New Year! The to-do list is so important, it’s the only way I get things done. I’ve got “drink more water” and “go to bed earlier” on my list as well. I really need to work on those
I love making lists and crossing the things off! I have my planner on hand during the day and add all the things I need to accomplish as soon as they pop in my head. As a mommy, I find difficult to get some me time, but I’ll try to take care of myself better during the next year.
I love your list!! I have been working on all of these except making the bed. I leave home in the morning before my husband. Maybe I get him to make sure it is done lol. Self care is so important and I try to get some in every day.
All of these are what I need and want to get back into doing. I know that if I put in the fort my days will go so smoothly and I will accomplish a lot.
Wonderful list and i agree the power of making my bed every morning, is a good start to a day before a cup of coffee 🙂 Happy New Year!
I honestly can say that making the bed every day takes less clutter and stress off of me. Like we really need to have our mind set right from the beginning of the day.
Amazing habits 🙂 Love the self care idea . Go girl! Thank you for sharing
Thanks for your comment I appreciate it! ?
What a great list of New Year Habits. I love that making a to do list every night and I think I will do just that starting tonight.
It’s really been the best thing for me! Love it!
