Effective Habits You Should Be Starting in the New Year

Welcome to The Divine Life Blog! I appreciate you stopping by. Make sure you never miss a post by subscribing via email. This post may contain affiliate links, so be sure to view my disclose policy.

Ahhh, can you smell the fresh new year in the air?  I don’t know about you but it gets me thinking about how I can improve myself.  There really is no better time to try to create some good habits for yourself.  It’s the only time I’m motivated to do so and I’m sure you feel the same way too. I’ve put together some great habits you can bring into your brand spanking new year.
New Year, New Habits. Start it off right with these habits that can improve your life.

Make Your Bed Every Morning

There is nothing better than pulling back the comforter and getting into bed at the end of the day, but when my bed is a mess from the morning – it’s just not the same.  I know you may feel like it’s a waste of time, especially if you are rushing in the morning but just do it.  You won’t be sorry.

New Year, New Habits. Start it off right with these habits that can improve your life.

Make a To Do List every night

Since you are on your phone at night laying in bed checking your Facebook, go ahead and use a notes app to make a list of things you know you need to get done tomorrow. Rather write it down? Make sure you have a pad and paper right on your night table ready to go.   If you are like me, I stay awake making lists in your head anyway so if you can brain dump it and not have to remember it, you’ll sleep much better.

New Year, New Habits. Start it off right with these habits that can improve your life.

Check Your To Do List and Calendar When You Wake Up

Now that you’ve written it down don’t forget to go back in the morning and look it over checking things off as you go about your day.  Check your calendar either on your phone or your agenda depending on how you like to keep it and remind yourself of any appointments you may have that day.  If the things on your list are to be done in the future, be sure to add those to your calendar at this time.

Read A New Book Every Month

I know what you are thinking, who has time to sit and read a book?  I get it but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the books your friends are loving.  Believe it or not, you have the time if you are using Audible to read you your books.  No matter if you are driving or cleaning the house, by using Audible to buy books and their awesome app to read your books to you, you have no excuse for not being able to keep this new habit going.  Click here to get a free month of Audible and 2 free books!

Self Care Every Day

Every day? Really Dawn?  Before you freak, I’m not saying you need to go out and get a pedicure every day and spend lots of money. All I’m saying is do something to make you feel good and improve your appearance.  Take an Epsom salt bath, exfoliate your face or body, shave those legs (yes, even in the winter) just do something for yourself every day.  Put it on your checklist so you don’t forget what you are going to do.

Dang I am almost 100% on top of things lol. I do all of this except read a new book every month. I do want to find more ME time for reading though. Great list! Another thing I am doing is taking more relaxing bubble baths rather than always showering.

I am on board with reading a book! But I rarely make my bed. I just don’t see the point.

I should write more to do lists…

Some say that messy room is equal to a messy thinking. If you start your work in a clean environment, you can easily think better and be more productive especially if you have a habit of reading books that can enhance your knowledge, makes your memory and focus improve, makes you a better writer and can reduce stress.

Read a new book every month is on my list of goals for 2017! I cannot leave the house in the morning without making my bed, pulling the duvet and sheets right back to air out the bed after 8 hours of 2 people sleeping in it is so important for health and sanitary reasons!! Plus it goes with the tidy home, tide mind theory that I have.
