I love the look of a lipstick (as most women do) but the constant reapply all day isn’t something I want to deal with. Gloss has always been my go-to for this reason alone. I’ve tried other long lasting lipsticks throughout the years only to be let down; labeling them a complete failure. So except for very special occasions, I kind of just gave up on the idea of lipstick all together.
For quite awhile now, I’ve seen my friends and the advertisements on Facebook for this amazing new lip product called LipSense by SeneGence. Who is this company and what makes it so fantastic? I’m a natural born skeptic so I kind of just ignored the hype and waited for the product to fall off the face of the earth and die out–but it just hasn’t! For over a year now, LipSense has continued to rise; now more popular than ever and their sales team is absolutely exploding!
It was time to give it a go so I reached out to my friend Lindsay Blunck, a SeneGence rep, to tell me all I needed to know and send me LipSense to try myself. Here is what I learned.
What is LipSense and How does it work?
This is Lipsense in a nutshell:
- Long Lasting Lipstick (4-18hrs)
- Kiss proof
- Smudge Proof
- GMO Free
- Wax Free
- Gluten Free
- Lead Free
It comes in over 36 shades and a variety of top coats. I’ve only personally tried the Glossy Gloss but you can also get these finishes:
Since you usually put at least 2-3 coats of the lip color on in one application, you can combine colors to make new shades personalized just for you. The possibilities are endless!
You may find it strange that the first ingredient in LipSense is Alcohol but it’s cosmetic grade so don’t worry. It actually has a few great benefits. It exfoliates your lips which make them smoother and prevents any bacteria from building up on the tube it’s stored in.Does it really work? LipSense by SeneGence Click To Tweet
How do I apply LipSense?
LipSense works in a layering process. Want a subtle color that day? Apply 1 coat of LipSense. For a darker, more dramatic look go for 2 or 3! Then just top it off with your gloss of choice, it’s that easy. Here is how I apply it myself.
- I exfoliate my lips first to give my LipSense a nice surface to work with. I’ve been using my lip scrub from E.L.F and it’s worked perfectly. Wash off and dry lips completely.
- With lips slightly apart, I apply my 3 thin coats allowing each coat to dry before applying the next.
- Check to see that I’ve lined my lips perfectly and fix any mistakes with makeup remover
- Apply my Glossy Gloss Coat and be on my way!
A quick word about the Opps Remover
It just so happens I can’t use the Opps Remover at this time because it contains Retinol which isn’t something you should use while pregnant. I find makeup remover or wipes work perfectly so I don’t think Opps Remover is something you absolutely need to have. I did once mistake the Opps Remover for the Gloss and let me tell you, it all came off with ease. Not the result I wanted at the moment but it did a great job! I do plan to use the remover when I’m able to.
My Thoughts on LipSense
Like I said early, I was skeptical but I made sure to give it a chance and honestly, I was blown away!
The application process looked a bit complicated when I saw Lindsay’s video on how to apply it but in reality, it was a piece of cake! Yes, it takes a bit longer than applying other lip glosses but if you are someone who already lines their lips, applies lipstick, and gloss on top, it’s won’t take any more time than you are used to.
The gloss is my favorite. It’s really long lasting so you don’t have to apply it more than twice in a day. That’s after 3 meals, constant drinking, and kissing my adorable husband. The gloss isn’t overly sticky and doesn’t leave any residue which I appreciate. Nothing worst having a gloss crud in the corners of your mouth or on your favorite mug.
For testing purposes, I’ve worn my LipSense for 24 hrs straight. No doubt when I woke up that it was blotchy and looked like I slept with it on, the product, for the most part, remained on my lips, though. I really think if I had been up all night and applying my gloss it would still look almost perfect. The alcohol base means it won’t rub off on your pillow or any other surface or fabric. Instead it just kind of peels off as if you were exfoliating your lips (which we know that’s what LipSense does already).
Does it last all day?
In a nutshell, yes! You may want to keep in mind these few factors that can make wearability even longer (or shorter):
- Greasy foods will make it come off sooner. Be sure to reapply gloss before such a meal!
- How well did you exfoliate your lips? The more dead skin you removed the longer lasting!
- Make sure your lips are moist, reapply that top coat every 6 hours at least!
My final remarks
There is no doubt in my mind that of all the long-wear lipsticks I’ve ever tried, LipSense surpasses them all by far. This skeptic has been silenced and finding a product that actually lives up to the hype is refreshing, to say the least. I know SeneGence has a load of other beauty products in their lineup and I’m eager to try them out for myself in the near future.
