You may not know this, but Tricare will pay for a brand new breast pump every time you have a new child. This is a huge benefit that you should take full advantage of because every birth (or adoption!) is completely different. I had a preemie daughter last year and I needed a pump that was hospital grade because she wasn’t able to nurse at all. Thank goodness for The Breastfeeding Shop and its wide selection of pumps from which to choose. They do practically all the work for you – Seriously, it was so simple to get my pump!
THESE QUESTIONS WILL HELP YOU DECIDE HOW TO PICK YOUR PUMP
Where and how much will you pump?
If you work outside the home or find yourself on the go a lot, you may want to consider a pump that is battery operated and portable. If you are a homebody, a pump that stays in your nursery might be preferable. Are you exclusively pumping or will you breastfeed too? Will you consider supplementing with formula? These are all questions you need to ask yourself before you pick a pump because the answers will help you determine what pump will be the best fit for your life.
Do you need a strong suction?
I highly suggest getting a machine that has a high suction. Even if you think you don’t need it now, you never know. If you have a preemie (like I did) or just have issues producing milk, a good, strong suction can really save your milk game. It’s always worth thinking of the dreaded possibility of ‘production-issues’ ahead of time so you won’t have to face any possible struggles unprepared.
What features are important to your lifestyle?
Some pumps have special features and perks. Thankfully, The Breast Feeding Shop has a comparison chart to help you out. Some pumps come with Tote bags, battery options (like mentioned above) single or double pumping, and more. Still, have questions or need help? No problem! You can contact them and they will be happy to help you out. Because you have a hundred other things you need to be dealing with right now! Let the Breastfeeding shop take one thing off your to-do list.
Once you decide which pump you want, you can start the process of receiving your breast pump. It’s super easy and took me just 10 minutes to do:
- Get a prescription from your OBGYN (just ask at your next appointment)
- Select your pump (from the selection listed on their site)
- Fill out the order form (so quick and easy!)
And BAM, your pump will be shipped directly to your front door. From script to pumping the entire process took literally less than a week! I couldn’t believe how quick and easy it was.
Don’t forget that a lot of accessories are also included at no cost to you, so check those out, too.
